Use a tyre boot. One normally comes with your p***ture repair kit, or use two layers of gaffer tape, or a gel wrapper, or something similar. It may make a lump in your tyre.

Sounds like maybe vandalism though? Never heard of a screw going straight in like that before.

I want to join a cycling club, have a bash at time trialing, ride my first century and try my hand at cyclocross next year. Oh and maybe try some microadventures and ultra light weekend touring.

Pretty small stuff but you have to start somewhere.

Edit. Oh and audax. Audax seems to be right up my street.

Initially TGVs had no reserved space for bikes but more recently some services can accommodate fully assembled bikes. I travelled on a TGV from Paris to Geneva which had part of the last carriage of an 8-car set dedicated to bicycle storage.

Unlike the Eurostar bikes in bags can be carried on all TGVs as hand-luggage.

    Quote:
    sunrise on Haleakala

I tried this, set of from Paia at 3am laughably thinking I could do the climb in 3.5 hours. 5.5 hours of climbing later I made the top having missed the sunrise, although I was treated to an hour's descending in glorious sunshine with the friendliest drivers I've ever shared a road with (lots of 'fasi's being shown out of windows, and people pulling over to let you past).

If I was doing it again I'd ride up for sunset, means descending in dusk but you'll see the sunset for most of the descent.

If you're planning to go up with a guided group, beware, I don't think they will let you ride down from the top, and the bikes they give you are heinous. Better to get a friend to drive you (I couldn't persuade my girlfriend to drive me up even if I'd wanted her to).

"Seperate but equal" was the unpleasant justification for Apartheid in South Africa. Of course the facilities for the non whites were anything but equal. Just as cycle facilities are a poor substitute for free use of the road. It might be another case if farcilities were not such an insult.

Yes, because The Netherlands and Denmark are just *full* of slavery like oppression and apartheid of cyclists.

  • Plans/Ambitions for 20152 days 7 min ago2015 is a transitional year

2015 is a transitional year for me, building to what I hope will be a successful attempt at a couple of national vets title in 2016.

That said, I still have more aims than I should (well certainly from the other halves perspective anyway!)

    Physical:
Drop the weight down to 74kg (currently 78.3kg) by the middle of May
Crack a 380watt 20min test by the end of 2015

    Competitive:
    - Win a road race local to where I grew up. As a kid I'd watch the racing and it transfixed me, but to this day, I've never converted a win... keen to address that in March.
    - Both the regional road and circuit champs... again never won either (been on the podium so many times its not funny)... would love to get one of those titles
    - Ensure that I have a first cat licence going into 2016... the last thing I want to do is miss the entry for a national championship because I missed selection!

    All quite exciting really.

Great to see this. I'm quite enjoying these attempts at the Hour. As far as I'm concerned though, everyone is keeping it warm until a top-class time triallist with track experience has a go. Which means Dowsett's mark will be the first that *really* tells us what the modern level is, and when Wiggo has a go it will probably be all over for a while.
