Staying visible!

Okay, so my girlfriend is worried about me being hit by a car and wants me to get some sort of high vis top whilst cycling. She suggested a high vis sash Nerd , I refused Cool. I use a front/rear light combo everytime I'm out. I was thinking of getting a fluro top (do these only really work in dull light or will they be good in summer too?) but wondering if I'd be better off with a bright coloured top (red or something) Suggestions/advice welcome and any ideas for tops to get.

Cheers

Any off-roaders that use Dovestone Reservoir near Saddleworth take note.

“A number of deliberate traps have been found around the Chew Plantation near Dove Stone Reservoir. These include black cords tied between trees and unstable boulders placed in the landing zone for jumps and drop-offs."

Hit and run

Yesterday I was hit by a car and the car drove off without exchanging details.

Happily it was a low speed impact; I was stationary and the driver turned across me, going into my rear wheel - I didn't even fall off the bike, but the wheel is trashed.
The driver looked at me, looked at the bike, and calmly drove off.
I've got his plates, and I've got a witness.

Helmet company says dangerising cycling is good for business

A helmet company is pushing retailers to warn about the dangers of cycling as, guess what, it helps to sell helmets. Rudy Project communications director Amanda Grant published a piece in "Bicycle Dealer", a US trade mag. It includes some lovely advice to retailers on using anecdotal, emotional manipulation to sell helmets:

"Keep a helmet in shambles from a crash on display and include a testimony about the life it saved, or show a disturbing photograph or video"
