UK cycling's great and good join first Hall of Fame
Fifty veterans of UK cycling - riders, coaches and personalities - were inducted into a 'hall of fame' at British Cycling's 50th anniversary celebrations in Manchester.
The inauguralll hall of fame included Olympic gold-medal winners Chris Boardman and Jason Queally, and enigmatic Scots rider Robert Millar who, unsurprisingly, didn't turn up to the event.
Yvonne McGregor, Craig MacLean, Paul Manning, Beryl Burton, Hugh Porter - now a renowned commentator - and Graeme Obree were among those inducted.
Bournemouth NIMBYs lose cycle track fight
Cyclists in the Bournemouth area are set to benefit from a new cycle track in the South Coast resort after the local council rejected objections from local residents and approved the £880,000 scheme.
The 250-metre track will be used for recreation, fitness training and competition, and will also provide a safe location for cycle training to be given to youngsters. Besides cyclists, it will also be available to skateboarders and joggers. The site will also include toilets, a café and a play area.

Olympic BMX rider Shanaze Reade has been joined by pupils from a Manchester school at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new £24 million, 11,000 square foot National Indoor BMX Centre, which will boast the world’s first purpose-built indoor BMX track.

Something of an Italian flavour has crept into cycling sponsorship in the last few days, with the news that Fiat is backing British Cycling, and a Milton Keynes-based team is being sponsored by Domino's Pizza.
Car giant Fiat has signed a deal with British Cycling that will see them supply cars for use by the team and staff over the next three years.
Britain's champion Olympic and Paralympic teams will use the Fiat Bravo, the new Punto Evo and Fiat's 500 city car for transport.

It’s safe to say that Formula One will never figure as an Olympic sport, but engineers at McLaren are aiming to use the technology that helped bring Lewis Hamilton the 2008 World Driver's Championship to help Team GB’s cyclists achieve further gold medal success at London 2012.
Survey aims to address cycling inequality
A bid to tackle inequality between the sexes when it comes to getting out on the bike is being made by British Cycling.
The organisation wants to find out why, when cycling is increasing at an unprecedented level, female participation has decreased. This trend, it says, 'magnifies the escalating gap between male and female participation' in the sport.
In addition, the level of female participation in cycling is a significant 17% lower than female participation in all sports.
National CX Champs postponed
Just read on the British Cycling Website that the National Cyclo-Cross championships in Sutton Park, which were going to be held this weekend, have been postponed until the 6th + 7th Feb.
Nuts! I was going to go to this, and was looking forward to it taking place in the snow. I bet the Belgians wouldn't cancel for a bit of snow!
