Bikes - Time Trial
Wilier TwinFoil frameset
Whoosh! There you go. That's my review distilled into one word – the new Wilier TwinFoil is one fast bike.
Although when viewed from the side the TwinFoil looks vaguely similar to a bunch of other time trial bikes, the front end is very unusual and the frame boasts several innovative features all designed to reduce drag and maximize your speed. Even as pro-level TT bikes go, this is seriously quick.
Trek Speed Concept 9.9
Trek reckon their Speed Concept is the fastest production bike in the world. That's some claim. We've been riding the top of the range 9.9 model for the past few weeks to find out whether we agree. There's no disputing, this thing is quick...
NeilPryde Alize
Neilpryde jumped into the high-end road bike market last year with two models; the Diablo (see review here) and the Alize. In addition to utilizing their experience accrued from years of working with carbon fibre (mainly building windsurf masts), Neilpryde also enlisted the design expertise of BMW Group subsidiary DesignWorks USA, an indication that they weren't going to be satisfied with putting out any old cookie-cutter bike. The results are stunning. The Alize's sharp edges and morphing tube shapes are certainly eye-catching and just scream performance; an impression soon backed up when you swing a leg over it.
Road.cc test report: Merida Warp 5
Merida's Warp 5 is a bike for those who want to get serious about their time trialling, but who don't want to break the bank… just yet.
When it comes to first time time trial steeds there are plenty of options to chose from. Plus you need to bear in mind that time trialling is a game of constant tweaking, honing and, hopefully, improving not just of your fitness and position but your equipment too.
