Old git

Sustrans today announced that they were putting £400,000 towards creating " …a new 'green corridor' set back from the busy A530." to connect Crew and Nantwich

Now I don't want to come over like a grumpy old curmudgeon but that sounds like a fancy way of saying 'footpath' to me… Although I suppose for that sort of money it is going to be a fairly fancy whatever it is.

Whippet wimps out… but I don't

The sun is shining but the scouring easterly means the whippet demands to be taken home after a couple of laps around a cocker spaniel… she didn't even bother to turn the afterburners on.

So I take the Orbea Onix out for a final quick blat across the top of Bath. Good short ride even if I did have to do it with the odd combination of one road shoe and one trainer – cos I left the other shoe in the office. It wasn't a problem, but when only one side is pulling up you really notice how much extra benefit you get from a clipless pedal.

Old banana on the skids…

Bath is full of old relics from another age, me, Dave, lots of Georgian stuff, and the Roman baths, but just down the street from the road.cc office is this poignant reminder of a byegone era… 1990 or thereabouts.

I've walked past the Banana Falcon numerous times in the last few months slowing to take more of a look, but only this week did I realise that it hasn't moved at all – famed for my observational powers me.

What I learned this weekend…

Roger Hammond uses a 53-11 as his gear of choice for Paris Roubaix – particularly on the last few cobbled sections.

Chocolate is Carlos Sastre's supplement of choice when riding Le Tour

Team presentations are a bit odd, good for team bonding I'm sure, and in the Cervelo Test Team's case a good chance to explain what they are about is, but the actual pesentation is still ike some sort of school prize day before anyone's won any prizes (well not this term anyway).

That LV= release…

It's a slow news day and someone at the Press Association has been digging through their 'inbox' from last week…

Be interesting to see if anybody picks it up - the CTC have already nailed it once - looks like they may have to do it again

Off to sunny* Portugal… to meet the Tour de France winner (hopefully)

Off to the Cervelo Test Team launch. Should be fun, Carlos Sastre is on the team never spoken to a Tour de France winner before (although I was standing next to Lance Armstrong when he got off his bike after winning the 2005 Tour, but that's another story).

If you want me to ask him a question, I will - although I'm probably not going to be asking him THAT question. Thor Hushovd if you've got any questions for him fire them over too.

There shoud be some of these there too…

So it's cold outside…

There is no doubt that cycling is a drug and for most of us a little bitty thing like Winter isn't going to put us off. Mind you most of us don't go to quite the same lengths as Will to feed our addiction when the thermometer dips. Mind you, most of us don't have a personal target of 160,000 metres of altitude gained for 2008.
