Lance Watch 9. Nuts… and why you should rub 'em?

Whatever you think of Lance Armstrong, and around here we've had to make a conscious effort not to hold those trainers against him, there's no escaping the fact that apart from riding a bike and commiting fashion crimes with footwear – he does do some important stuff in the fight against cancer.

And the award for the campest podium shot of 2009 Classics season goes to…

Andy Schleck of Team Saxo Bank!

And to think that only last week Secret Squirrel thought Team Saxo Bank might not win anything at the classics. It only goes to show that a weekend is a long time in bike racing. Let's also not forget David Rebellin who gets the best supporting soulful stare by the man who came third award.

RIP Fixed gear bikes (1887 – 2009ish) maybe

Not much remarked on, but this week the imminent death of the fixed gear bike as the ultimate badge of style was announced in the Times. A heart-warming tale of a boy and his bike and a very long journey indeed

Ethan Johnson a teenager from Brisbane with mild Asperger's syndrome was the focus of a nationwide police search when he went missing two weeks ago. Spotted on cctv cameras riding his mountain bike along the Pacific Highway he kept going, unaware of his parent's pleas for him to return home. He lived on fast food and slept in truck stops and when found in Sydney on Good Friday told his parents that he 'rode from when I woke up to when I went to sleep'.

As the legendary Tim Westwood used to say, and possibly still does, respect is due.
