Vuelta Anticipation

I am usually jaded after a whole spring of classics and two three week tours but for some reason I cannot quantify, the upcoming Vuelta is pressing all the right buttons.

Maybe it has been the quality of the racing so far in 2010.

Despite being somewhat overshadowed by the whole 'mechanical doping' row, the month of April had all you could have wanted and more. I am getting used to better weather for the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix and it was really great viewing.

Summer is officially over....

I don't know about you, but the Fenland nights are drawing in and there is an early morning chill in the air.

My miles for August are feeble enough as it is with family gatherings and other commitments, but the weather isn't encouraing me to get in the saddle and put in the training.

Which is a bit of a swine as Kilotogo event "The Rut" is looming on a hill laden horizon and I need to get my a**e moving.

Cycling and the war on doping...

Reading this article elsewhere on road.cc has left me wishing I had never been quoted as saying "nothing in the sport of cycling can surprise me anymore".

Has the 2010 ride from Wiggins been better than last year?

Those of you who don't like 'plucky British loser' stories might want to avert your eyes for the next few minutes before coming back to the website.

I have been reading through the lines, scrutinising the press copy and cocking a close ear to the interviews and I have come to the conclusion that the 2010 ride by Bradley Wiggins has been the equal and (for the sake of starting debate with this blog) better of his 2009 vintage.

How so?

Has Tour changed for ever with "Chaingate" incident?

I am not sure that the non-cycling public are getting the best impression of our sport from this years Tour de France.

We saw the headbutting incident involving Mark Renshaw (the first two weren't butts, he was merely fending off Julian Dean who was crossing into his line) and now the whole 'should he shouldn't he' Contador incident.

The best ever 'retro' cycling product?

Oh my... I want it more than the new Oakley glasses....

Alternative Tour de France Week 1

Despite claiming on a number of occasions that the blog would be updated more regularly, I am still floundering for time. So this is more of a round-up that I would usually be wanting to do but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

This time last year I was making my way home from Catalunya having watched the first week stages into Perpignan and Barcelona. It was all about the atmosphere and being there but in 2010 the first week has actually been about the racing.

Fantasy Tour a winner

It's been a while and I promise a proper blog udpate shortly but I just wanted to check in and say how awesome it is to see the popularity of the road.cc fantasy cycling league.

I have a mini league going from work and with Yaxley Riders. I hope when word gets round that there might be a Fenland/National Clarion one.

My day with the Tour Series #2 !

Evening all, I am sorry to report that despite a few glimpses on ITV4 this evening, the Road.cc t-shirt (in shocking pink) wasn't that visible on our nations TV screens.

My apologies to Dave and Tony.

Last years blog regarding Peterborough cyclings big night out focused on the support event local amateurs including myself were part of. You can read it by clicking here.

Tour Series time again...

And so, 12 months on from the last visit, the Halfords Tour Series reaches Peterborough this afternoon after a really successful event in 2009.

As with the previous event, this afternoons festivities kick off with the city council backed "Travel Choice Time Trial" which sees the local amateur riders from Peterborough CC and Fenland Clarion compete in a two lap event with aggregate times deciding the winner.
