Reinventing (everything but) the wheel

What will the next urban bike look like? Well, rooting around on the web we found this on Core 77 an industrial design website.  J.Ruiter, a design firm from Michigan, think it'll look like the above. and here's why.

Long time no see

Hello old friend. Been a while. Although after 45 minutes I remembered why we'd fallen out.

Fixing the fibres

Disaster.

You've binned your fancy Carbon road frame after an argument with a car and the 'bars have gone through the top tube. It's a bit of a mess, and it's not covered under your warranty. So that's that, right? Well, not quite.

Chris Boardman's TdF Prologue winning bike up for grabs on ebay

Can't vouch for the provenance of this machine but hey, there aren't that many Eddy-Merckx-branded Lotus TT bikes from the turn of the century. Even if it's not Boardman's one, £1700 looks like a snip Smile

Who needs a car? Part 2...

After last week's experiment strapping a bike to my trailer box I thought I'd have a go at upping the ante and fitting my bike rack. managed to get a bike plus a wheelset on there, i reckon it'd take two bikes... got some odd looks Smile

Giro 1974 - Tre Cime di Lavaredo

If you think it's bad on the mountain slopes of a major tour these days then take a look at this amazing clip of the 1974 Giro with José Manuel Fuente riding away from Eddy Merckx to a summit finish at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. It's unbridled carnage: unsurfaced sections, sub-zero temperatures, outriders running over spectators, cyclists crashing into outriders, team cars getting stuck between parked cars, men in suits chasing the riders up the hill... unbelievable

Who needs a car?

Had to get two bikes into work this morning so tied one to the box trailer, works pretty well. Next up: fitting a bike rack to the trailer so i can do more than one Smile

Things what I learned on my ride today

1) Red deer can run half a mile faster than I can sprint half a mile

2) Service station sausage and bean slices are not good ride fuel

3) Never plan a route through anywhere called 'Clyffe'

You might think it's a long way down the road to the chemist but that's just peanuts to Eurobike

We're always going on about how big Eurobike is. So to give you a flavour here's a quick vid of us walking from one end where our dodgy Hymer was parked, to the other where we were meeting Viner in the very furthest stand in the last hall. We've speeded it up obviously...

Cycling sucks

Here's a nice tongue in cheek vid (below) from the Netherlands. What would cycling be like if it was like driving? that's the theme explored in this short which was created as a Dutch school project aimed at promoting bikes – a long way from the situation we're currently seeing in the UK where bikes are effectively banned at some schools...
