Creative use of white space

We're having a few problems with our ads on the site, you may have noticed. sometimes they don't appear and you get big white spaces. more of a problem for us than for you really, but just in case you're wondering, that's what is meant to be in the holes. We're working to move the ads over to the same server as the site but that's what broke it yesterday, so this time we're going to be a bit more careful...

Verging On The Odd

Strange things seen on a ride.

#3 - Menstrual Cycle Lane.

Back, back, back in time…

This afternoon we have mainly been trying to make the site go a bit faster… and made it go a bit slower instead… or maybe we made it go so fast that it went back in time… twice.

So mucho apologies to those who lost comments this afternoon - we reckon we can get them back, honest.

Bigger apologies to those who registered on road.cc this afternoon… erm not sure we can get you back. We'll try though.

Semolina; fuel of weekend warriors

We all recall semolina with strawberry jam from school dinners, not as good a pudding as spotted dick and custard or jam roly-poly.

I was reading an article in Singletrack a couple of months ago by Matt Hart on pasta and about how it is made from durum wheat, or semolina. Now I think I knew this deep down in the recesses of my brain but never did anything with this information.

The Flat Tyre Blues: How to win friends and influence people.

Flat tyres are sometimes the universe’s way of communicating a deeper, more serious problem and should be ignored at your peril… It all began with Saturday’s spring sunshine drawing me like a magnet to a mid morning ride. Road Path bike still requiring a stem and an afternoon to fit wheels, brake and drivetrain, my fabled 1991 road frameset still at the sprayers, the Univega was my machine of choice.

Commuter Diaries - weekly musings

What a glorious week of weather. You could tell things were good by the array and sheer number of Italian thoroughbreds on the road. Where were these super machines during the height of winter? My old Dawes work horse is looking haggard and paunchy in comparison. Still I like the fact it is British made; but I have to say, I will probably have to dust off my Specialized Allez Elite, just to compete! It’s pretty much an off the peg bike apart from the Saddle, but is svelte enough for my size. It’s great to see the variety and volume of bikes out there, long may it continue!

Friday Schwag Grab: Genesis Tee

A different tee this time, in a different size. Large, with a kind of grid graphic on the front and some guff on the back too for good measure. In grey.

Who wants it? Usual rules: just post a comment and you're in the bag/hat/mug. The judge's yadda yadda. No alternative prize will be offered*

*except we do have an XL too Smile

Summer bike; first ride this year

Last Saturday decided weather had improved sufficiently to get best bike out. Needed to take it for a spin as it is only three weeks till Tour of Flanders sportif.

It felt fast when the wind was with me, riding alone as away for the weekend with friends. Escaped for a few hours, very nice. Started East of Newark and headed SOuth to Vale of Belvoir. Flat.....

Commuter Diaries - Overkill

Little bit of overkill on the ride home this evening, but you never know what or who you're going to run into?

This has got to end-o

Put a stop to the idiots who ride single speed bikes mascaraed as fixers. You can spot these wannabes who ride a freewheel and only a front brake. This is fine if you are on a fixie as you can apply resistance to the back wheel through your pedals but the folk who are riding with only a front anchor are missing the point and I'm guessing that they are not very experienced cyclists which makes it an accident waiting to happen. Rant over.
