Cloud Chasing

It was the best of days, it was the worst of days. Sitting with most of my gear on, waiting for the second pot of coffee to empty and the rain to stop. Three times I made it to the front door, worn cleats snapping on the tiles. Three times, I returned to the kitchen defeated by the rain. With each minute that passed -a kilometre was knocked off my planned spin. When the kettle was clicked again, a whole mountain was mentally deleted from the potential spin .

10 extraordinary days in the life of a #bloodycyclist

Well what a week it's been, from a cyclist to internet celebrity and road safety campaigner in the space of a few days. After one incident on the road and a poorly thought out Tweet one person becomes a reluctant hero and one an internet villain. But the most important thing to take from it all is that we all share the roads and need to learn how to do so with mutual understanding.

Driving isn't a right - and sentencing needs to reflect that, says Aileen Brown

Aileen Brown is a lifelong cyclist and a member of Bath Cycling Club. Her mother, Audrey Fyfe, a member of CTC for more than five decades, was killed in 2011 while riding her bike in Edinburgh. The driver, Gary McCourt, received a 300 hour community sentence and was banned for driving for five years after being convicted of causing her death through careless driving. In 1986, he had received a one-year prison sentence and was banned from driving for ten years for causing the death of a cyclist through reckless driving.

A lonely ride back to race HQ

Blow out

Yesterday's VC Glasgow South race was going well until I punctured on lap 2.  I'd gotten past the point at which I was dropped during last years race and feeling ok for the last lap, with thoughts wandering to the climb up to the finish line at the top of Eaglesham moor, but it wasn't to be...

No man's land

Campagnolo throw an 80th anniversary party....

This is unusual. Eddy Merckx and Miguel Indurain are sitting at the next table with Ernesto Colnago and Vittorio Adorni, Greg Lemond is standing chatting to Andy Hampsten and, just as we’re about to tuck into dessert, in walk Felice Gimondi and Mario Cipollini.

Starting a race team

Starting a race team

What do you do if you want to start your own race team?  We've all (probably) watched a LOT of pro cycling the and thought that we could do a good job of organising a team, giving riders a sense of purpose... or designing a better kit (Katusha... shudder).  So what would make you do it?  James Ashberry started Stay Classy/Well Handled RT in 2012 with his mate Iain Bolton after they decided that they'd like to give it a go.

If you start it... they will come

Oakleys - are they worth it?

Considering getting some Oakley glasses. Ones with a prescription required though. Seem very expensive. Are they worth it?

That depends on the opportunity cost, should it apply in your financial circumstances. Setting aside the prescriptive need, which can be met by contacts, consider also the following:

HOY Bikes: the journey so far

The summer of 2012 was a memorable one for me. When Sir Chris Hoy was powering away from Maximilian Levy to take the Keirin title at the London Olympics, I was halfway up an Alp struggling to get a phone signal to find out the result. Just a few weeks later I'd be treading the halls of the Eurobike show with the man himself, working with him to create the new bike range that bears his name.
